The awosobi is a traditional African clay pot used in the Yoruba religion and Santería, especially in practices related to theishas. This vessel has a diameter of approximately 10 inches and is handcrafted from fired clay, which gives it a particular resistance and durability, ideal for ritual and ceremonial purposes.
The awosobi is mainly used to prepare and cook spiritual medicines and herbs used in religious ceremonies. It is also used to place the "yangi" or sacred stones of Esu (also known as Eleggua or Eshu), the orisha of roads and communication between the spiritual and earthly worlds. The shape and material of the awosobi make it an element that facilitates connection with nature and the elements, maintaining the essence of the medicines and strengthening their ritual effectiveness.
