What is Eko or Eco?

Eko (also known as Eco) is one of the most traditional offerings within the Regla de Osha. It is a corn-based preparation offered as an adimú to the Orishas.

It is a simple but very powerful offering, used in different ceremonies, cleansings, and spiritual attentions. Its importance lies in its purity and its direct connection to the basic elements of nature.

There is also another more elaborate preparation:

  1. Mix fine corn flour with:

    • milk

    • sugar

    • cocoa butter

    • cascarilla

    • holy water

  2. Cook until the mixture is dry.

  3. Wrap it in a tamale shape (aluminum foil or traditional).

  4. Boil for approximately 15 minutes.

  5. Let it cool and serve on a white plate.

Eko is adapted according to the Orisha it is offered to:

  • To Oshun → with honey

  • To Obatala → with cascarilla and cocoa butter

  • To Yemaya → with molasses

  • To Eleggua → with palm oil

Each presentation adjusts to the energy and preferences of each Orisha.

🔥 Eko for Aggayu

When Eko is prepared for Aggayu, the offering is more specific:

  • Prepare 9 Ekos

  • Each one is topped with:

    • smoked fish

    • smoked jutía

    • toasted corn

    • Guinea pepper

    • honey

    • palm oil

    • red wine

    • schnapps

Place the offering for 9 days and then take it to a tree or to nature.
